# Mark a Sprinto check as Special Case

Marking a check as a _special case_ is helpful when a compliance activity is not relevant to your organisation or cannot be completed due to operational constraints.

When a check is marked as a special case, Sprinto automatically sets its status to **Passing** for a defined period. These instances are categorised separately under **Special Cases**, along with supporting remarks and uploaded evidence. This allows auditors to identify exceptions easily during compliance reviews.

***

### Before You Begin

* Log in to the **Sprinto Admin Portal** using your credentials.
* Ensure you have permission to view and update Workflow Checks in your compliance area.

### Steps to Mark a Check as a Special Case

#### 1. Open a Pending Check

1. Navigate to any pending Sprinto check from any compliance area.
2. You can view all pending checks by opening one of the tasks under the **Tasks** tab.

#### 3. Define the Special Case Details

In the drawer that opens, provide the following details:

<table><thead><tr><th width="233.921875">Field</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Additional Notes</strong></td><td>Add a short explanation describing why the check is being marked as a special case.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Upload Evidence (optional)</strong></td><td>Attach supporting documents or screenshots if applicable.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Expiry</strong></td><td>Choose <em>Valid forever</em> to keep the exception active indefinitely, or set a specific expiry date if it’s temporary.</td></tr></tbody></table>

#### 4. Save the Special Case

1. After reviewing your inputs, click **Mark as Special Case** to confirm.
2. The check will appear as _Passing_ for the defined period and move under the **Special Cases** category.

***

### Result

Once applied, the check status changes to **Passing**, and the details are stored for future audits. This ensures transparency in compliance tracking while allowing justified exceptions.
